Letter from our Founder & Director,

Ruth Ann Young

November, 2013

As we approach this special season, I hope all of your hearts will be filled with the beautiful memories we have shared over these last ten years.  We can now celebrate the holiday season by taking a moment and expressing a sincere THANK YOU to everyone for the ten years of supporting our troops and their families.  Together, we were able to send the “Spirit of Christmas” to over 100,000 of our troops on the frontlines & their families.

Our mission was 100% accomplished — and then some.  Operation Iraq-Afghanistan received the Raytheon Program Achievement Award in May 2004 for best use of volunteers in the entire United States of America.  Four years ago the transportation authorities informed us, as a 100% volunteer organization, that we had sent more care packages to our five branches of military personnel whom were stationed on the front lines than anyone else in the United States.  Over the last ten years, we sent more than 100,000 packages to our military service members on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan and Christmas stockings to their children here at home.  The truth of the matter is, there were always pallets of toys that went separately and often not a part of those numbers we counted!

There was a clear message we sent from our packing sites over those ten years:  Americans deeply recognize and appreciate our military troops more than ever.  We realize their sacrifices and how they continue to protect our precious gift of freedom for us.  Our military are our “American Heroes” big time!

This was merely a vision on my part in the beginning, and of course it grew by leaps and bounds.  Most would describe it as “taking on a life of its own” over the years.  However, we all know someone much bigger blessed us with the guidance and created what seemed like one gigantic family that continued to emerge from within. Watching it unfold and become a MAGNICENT reality in itself, one might say it was a Christmas Miracle.  We knew our troop’s sacrifices deserved nothing less than the best from us here at home.  Families galore gathered throughout our state ever year to participate and pack for “our troops” in the little town of Kirkland.  It was important to send them our best.  Of course we had the helping hands of many companies and residents throughout the entire U. S. that joined in the excitement. Together we made it happen!  It was amazing each year to see it all unfold!

For me, in my personal journey, it was being able to watch thousands of our young students and residents gather throughout our community year after year.  We all laughed and enjoyed the excitement the night never failed to bring!  It never ceased to be amazing and will always have a special place in my heart forever.

As the founder and director, this year I am asking you to take some time and bring “The Spirit of Christmas” into our own lives.  In other words, recharge your batteries!  You deserve it! Treasure the memories we shared together.  When you get a chance, please take a peek at the website and share one of your own fondest memories with me!  Continue to embrace the joyful memories we shared and the heartfelt love we sent to our men and women on the front lines this past decade.  Embrace “The Spirit of Christmas” throughout this beautiful season.

Once again, thank you for joining me on the Frontlines of Home.  Together we really ROCKED!  To all of you, throughout the United States … A BIG HEARTFELT HUG!

God Bless,

Ruth Ann Young

Today was a beautiful day spent with the elementary school at Cedar Park Assembly of God, Bothell.  At Chapel this morning, the children filed in class by class with white boxes in hand and smiles on their faces.  Each box contained a specially packed Christmas Stocking filled with treats and toys for a special child of a military family.  Sgt. Josh Chiasson, US Army,  shared his story of service and why this project means so much to our military families.  The children were taught the proper way to salute, and brought their gifts to the feet of our soldier, saluting him.  Then this afternoon, the excitement continued to build, as Stuart and Jane Robinson pulled into the Cedar Park lot with the HEMTT.  The children created a chain and passed each box through their hands until all  boxes were loaded to be taken to the OSC headquarters.  Thank you CEDAR PARK FAMILIES for your generousity and kind hearts!  OPERATION SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS THANKS YOU!
A wonderful surprise awaited Ruth Ann Young early this morning Nov 1, 2012
at the local Pancake House! Our Kirkland Kiwanis morning club and the U.S.O.
of Seattle presented Operation Spirit of Christmas with several hand sewn
holiday stockings for the families of our American Heroes! They are
beautiful! Thank you again for joining our front lines here at home. “The
Spirit of Christmas” is definitely in the air and your helping hands
contributed in a big way to making that happen!
Randy, our Warehouse Manager, with his Assistant, Andrew spent the day sorting donation of toys and stocking stuffers.   Thank you Randy, for your continued dedication to keeping the warehouse organized and running smoothly!  You are appreciated!

Founder Ruth Ann Young and her dear friend have decorated an amazing Christmas tree for the official launch of Operation Spirit of Christmas 2012! As donations pour in to the Kirkland location, local teams from churches, businesses and communities come together to create a memorable Christmas for our military families in Washington State. The Christmas Tree lights the way and is a heartfelt reminder of the purpose of Operation Spirit of Christmas. Come on down to our location, bring a friend and a stocking filled with toys and join our amazing team! Thanks RuthAnn!

Fast Signs owner Greg has gotten us off to a good start with our 2012 Banners for Operation Spirit of Christmas! This is a great way to kick off the Christmas campaign for the kids! Christine helped get the ball rolling so we can let everyone one know where we are located. Fast signs makes it happen! Thanks so much team!
The Operation Spirit of Christmas Warehouse has come alive! Yesterday & today,  the garland and  trees and wreaths were put into place!  RuthAnn spend hours between the two days- cleaning, placing the Christmas decor, fluffing and filling the warehouse with Christmas Spirit.  The lights are lit on the inside windows and it is starting to come together! Best of all, a truck of donated toys from Mega Brands came at about 1:30pm yesterday! Lincoln Moving donated their services and trucked the toys from the Mega Brands Fife location to Kirkland and unloaded for us!  A HUGE SHOUT OUT and THANK YOU to Bernard at Mega Brand Toys and the fine young men from Lincoln Moving who kicked the warehouse off with the start of our Christmas Spirit this season!
It is with heartfelt and sincere appreciation that Operation Spirit of Christmas gives a HUGE shout out and THANK YOU to TJ and Carole Woosley.  The Woosley Family has donated (again) a huge warehouse space for us to call our headquarters and operate the Operation Spirit of Christmas 2012 Campaign.  Because of their generous donation, we are able to serve the needs of our military families to the large capacity in which we do!  We are blessed to have the Woosley Family in our community and as part of the Operation Spirit of Christmas family.  With heartfelt thanks and blessings to YOU!
Operation Spirit of Christmas would like to take a  moment to thank the Kirkland Kiwanis Club noon timers for allowing OSC to  participate in their annual swap meet event, held in North Bend,  this last weekend.  As always, Kiwanis supported OSC by including us in this fund raising effort.
Ruth Ann was able to  keep the Christmas spirit alive for our military children with beautiful Christmas decor from her  former shop, The Spirit of Christmas in Kirkland.
Kirkland Kiwanis Club has been a strong supporter from day  one!

Operation Spirit of Christmas,

We would like to take a special moment and say “Thank You” to the United Pilot’s Wives this year.  Member Faith Records did  a lot  of work and took a considerable amount of time collecting money and making some of the best purchases for our kids.  Mr. Ferguson, owner of Ben Franklin, right here in Redmond, Washington, was able to work with Faith very effectively from a monetary stance.  They were able to really purchase some of the most popular items for our military families to enjoy this Christmas morning.  Thank you so much for all the support you have given over these last 6 years and special “Welcome Aboard” to Mr. Ferguson.  We look forward to working with you in the future years to come!

Operation Spirit of Christmas  is excited to support the families of our American Heroes here on the homefront!

Our authorities in Washington DC blessed us with the good news of a downsized presence in Afghanistan as well as a real surplus of packages received on the frontlines last year.  We are excited at the opportunity to focus on the families here at home with the emphasis on bringing “The Spirit of Christmas” to the children.

We will unite for our 9th year and touch the hearts of our children here at home by filling thousands of Christmas Stockings for our very special military families.  We all know they deserve nothing less than the very best from us.  We are looking to collect Christmas stockings,  toys, games and more for the ages infants thru 18 years of age.

Operation Spirit of Christmas, accepted a generous monetary donation from National Anesthesia Services for the 2011 “Bringing the Spirit of Chrismtas to the Families of Our Real American Heroes” campaign. This large donation will allow and assist us in our transition to serving the families and children here at home of the servicemen/women serving on the front lines. It is our  hope to fill over 5,000 Christmas Stockings for the children.   Last year, Operation Iraq-Afghanistan accepted a $10,000 check at Seattle’s American Association of Nurse Anesthetist in support of “The Spirit of Christmas” campaign.  On hand to accept the check was Ruth Ann Young, Founder and Director of the charity. Message For Our Troops

The safety and freedom that you continue to provide to us here at home is understood and appreciated more than ever. For the first time in seven years, through this video, you can see with your own eyes our true appreciation for all that you continue to sacrifice each and every day on our behalf.

May this collaboration of donors and volunteers throughout the United States bring some well deserved heartfelt joy to you throughout your tour of duty. Sending you hugs from home, our prayers for your safety and blessings to all.
